If you’re looking for incredible mountain views, rustic elegance and all the convenience of being able to host your ceremony and reception in the same location, having a Buffalo Mountain Lodge wedding is definitely something you should consider.
If you decide to have a Buffalo Mountain Lodge wedding, you should know they offer three different options for receptions and weddings of all sizes; the Wapiti Longhouse, Strathcona Room and Wainwright Room. All rooms have a distinctly cosy and romantic feel and offer natural lighting, in-room bars and mountain views. The Wapiti Longhouse and the Strathcona Room feature balconies overlooking the stunning Cascade Mountain which you and your guests will love! The amount of times I’ve caught (and photographed) guests taking selfies on the balcony is endless. For larger weddings, the Wapiti Longhouse is composed of two levels and features a beautiful fieldstone log-burning fireplace and spectacular views of Cascade Mountain. If you’re planning a more intimate Banff wedding, the Wainwright Room offers rustic peaked wood-beam ceilings and windows filtering in an abundance of natural light.
Buffalo Mountain Lodge offers in-house catering that features exclusive, nature-inspired cuisine crafted from fresh, regional ingredients. With 108 guest rooms, keep all of your friends and family under one roof in the main lodge, built with hand-hewn timber, warmed by a fieldstone fireplace, and perfect for gathering in the cozy lobby bar for after-party drinks! I should probably mention they also have a large outdoor hot-tub which is always a selling feature for me for any Banff wedding accommodations.
The thing I love the most about having a Buffalo Mountain Lodge wedding is that it is basically an all-in-one Banff wedding venue. With easy walking access just across the road to Tunnel Mountain Reservoir (one of the only outdoor wedding ceremony sites in Banff) it’s pretty much impossible for anyone to get lost on their way to the ceremony (I’ve been wrong before though). If you decide to stay at the lodge the night before, which I highly recommend, it’s an easy stroll to the ceremony site so weddings generally stay on time when I’ve photographed them here. If the forecast suddenly turns to rain or snow, I have seen Buffalo Mountain Lodge quickly pivot to offer an indoor alternative which certainly saves on stress as it’s always great to have a back up indoor option.
Buffalo Mountain Lodge also offers elopement packages for you and your partner if you are looking for an intimate, romantic and warm elopement venue in Banff. One of my favourite moments during a Buffalo Mountain Lodge wedding I photographed was when the couple and I came back to their room and they snuggled up in front of the fireplace for a mid-day break before we headed out for more photos. Tunnel Mountain Reservoir offers a wide variety of options for backdrops for amazing mountain wedding photos in Banff so you don’t even have to wander far to get those epic wedding portraits that you will want to hang on your wall afterwards!
